Der Ring des Nibelungen, plus Parsifal, Lohengrin, Tristan und Isolde and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Day trips to Bamberg and Nürnberg. H4 Hotel Residenzschloss Bayreuth.
There are many Rings, but only one Bayreuth. It is the ultimate Wagner experience, to hear the Maestro’s music, in his city, in his opera house.
The Bayreuth Festival has it all: pomp and pageantry, fanfare and feuding, musical epiphanies, production-related outrages, political clashes, foot-stamping approval and the occasional chorus of boos. It is evocative, exhilarating, all-consuming and unlike any other musical experience anywhere. You have likely heard tell of the bottom breaking seats, of the lack of air-conditioning or surtitles, of the hour-long intervals that make for seven-hour marathons at the Festspielhaus… but unless you have experienced it, you have not heard this music played live with such sublime perfection.
2025 is once again a “Ring Year” in Bayreuth, and the production will be staged by Austrian director Valentin Schwarz and conducted by Simone Young. Schwarz won the Ring Award in 2017, an international stage directors’ competition. He has staged Mozart’s Così fan tutte at the Theater an der Wien and Maurizio Kagel’s Mare Nostrum at the Cologne Opera. Simone Young is considered one of the most important conductors of our time. Ms. Young is well known as a Wagner and Strauss specialist, a reputation she developed early in her career when she conducted multiple complete cycles of Wagner’s “Ring” at the Vienna State Opera and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, as well as his Walküre and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg along with Strauss’ Elektra, Salome, Die Frau Ohne Schatten and Ariadne auf Naxos, and also with a new production of Hans Pfitzner’s Palestrina at the Bavarian State Opera. In 2022 she began her position as Chief Conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. previous titled positions include: Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestre Chambre de Lausanne (2017-2020), Principal Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic (1998-2002); Artistic Director of Opera Australia (2001-2003); Principal Guest Conductor of the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon; Artistic Director of the Hamburg State Opera and Chief Music Director of the Hamburg Philharmonic (2005-2015).
In addition to The Ring, we hear four other Wagner masterworks, under the batons of four of the finest conductors, with superb Wagnerian casts.
Our seats will be excellent, all in the orchestra stalls, and accommodation will be at the H4 Hotel Residenzschloss Bayreuth. We will take only 12 participants.
